With just six months remaining on his contract at Bayern Munich, Leon Goretzka could be on the move either before the winter transfer window closes or in the summer.
According to Sky Germany, Atlético Madrid have targeted a move for the central midfielder this month, seeing him as a potential replacement for Conor Gallagher, who has moved to Tottenham.
Speaking in an interview with Die Zeit, Goretzka now admits that a departure from Bayern is a possibility.
"That is an option, of course" Goretzka said, adding:
"I find it exciting to go abroad at some point in my career."
Goretzka also revealed that he considered a move abroad in the past.
"But I consciously decided against it. I know that in Munich I’m in a comfort zone," he explained.
"Taking a step out would also be a step for my personal development. Getting to know something new would enrich my life as well."
Regardless of his destination, Goretzka is clear about what he expects from his next club.
"I want to play for a club with ambitions, that has a plan in which my qualities are needed. Above all, I want to inspire my teammates and take a team to another level," he said.
