A 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen tonight brought to an end Bayern Munich's five-year wait to reach a DFB-Pokal finale – something Manuel Neuer desperately longed for.

“I missed Berlin. It's annoying to not get to the final for so long, because we know what a special game it is," Neuer said after the game.

“It's a special occasion for the fans, the players and the club. We took our chance today,” the veteran shot-stopper added with a smile.

On the game itself, Neuer paid his respects to his opposite number, Mark Flekken, who produced eight saves in goals for Leverkusen.

“We could've scored more goals but Flekken was amazing. We stayed focused and managed to get a deserved win,” Neuer concluded.

When asked about his uncertain future with the German record champions, the 40-year-old stayed tight-lipped but dropped a subtle hint.

“I'm not going to announce anything right now – but at the moment it's looking good," he said, suggesting talks are progressing well.
