VfL Wolfsburg will have captain Maximilian Arnold back in the squad for their Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen on Saturday, head coach Dieter Hecking announced on Thursday.

After recently struggling with groin problems, Arnold has made a positive impression in training in recent days.

“He was able to complete all three training sessions in full. It looked solid,” Hecking explained at a press conference, while leaving open whether Arnold will start.

The coach also clarified the captaincy situation, making it clear that Arnold will wear the armband once he returns after Christian Eriksen captained the side in his absence during last week’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim.

“Maxi is the captain. I will not change that,” Hecking underlined.
