Mainz travel to face Borussia Dortmund in Friday’s Bundesliga fixture – and their midfield talisman Nadiem Amiri is looking forward to the match.

Ahead of Friday’s clash, the 29-year-old told RTL/ntv and Sport.de just how highly he regards the Black and Yellows.

“It’s an amazing club, I love playing there. It’s a huge game for me in front of 80,000 fans,” Amiri said.

Asked if Borussia Dortmund is his dream club, he responded:

“For me and my older brother, it’s always been a likeable club, even back in the days of Jürgen Klopp. For every German player, it’s a dream to play for Borussia Dortmund. But I still want to beat them.”

Amiri went on to express confidence that Mainz can challenge their second-placed opponents.

“We have a lot of confidence and already showed that last season. We’re a tough opponent for the big clubs,” Amiri said.

“They know we get under their skin. We run, we fight, we never get tired; we’re nasty to play against.

“Dortmund are beatable too. Mainz are never easy for Dortmund. They’re second and want to win the big German title, but we can hurt Dortmund.”

Amiri was linked with a move to Dortmund last summer, but the transfer never materialised, and the 29-year-old stayed at Mainz.
