Neuer responds to speculation over Urbig's role this season for Bayern

Manuel Neuer has denied reports suggesting Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to give Jonas Urbig more appearances during the upcoming season.

Asked whether such an arrangement exists, the Bayern captain made it clear that he expects the situation to remain unchanged from last year.

"No, I think it will be similar to last season. We'll support one another; we've got a strong goalkeeping squad, including Ulle and the young goalkeepers."

Neuer stressed that the focus is on healthy competition rather than guarantees over playing time.

"The important thing is that we help one another, that we push each other, and that we can always give our best for the team in goal."

The 40-year-old's comments suggest Bayern will continue relying on internal competition between Neuer, Urbig, Sven Ulreich and the club's younger goalkeepers throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

Last season, Neuer made 37 appearances for the Bavarians while keeping 11 clean sheets - Urbig on the other hand went 7 times without conceding in 20 games.
