Modeste puts pressure on FC Köln

Anthony Modeste says he's waiting for a contract offer from FC Köln.
Anthony Modeste has put pressure on FC Köln to offer him a new contract beyond 2023.

The 33-year-old forward, who has scored 18 goals this season, told Bild on Sunday that he would like a longer contract.

"The club knows what to do. At the end of the day, I need a bit of security. I'm 33 years old, and I'm going to be 34, but I feel I'm in top shape. Let's see what happens," Modeste said.

"If we don't find a solution and I feel like playing football, I have to think about something else. That's clear. If nothing comes from FC, then I also have to look elsewhere somehow."

Meanwhile, a total of six Köln players are out of contract this summer already, including regular starters Florian Kainz and Benno Schmitz.

Bild is reporting that Köln's negotiations with Kainz have stalled, with the German tabloid claiming that the club have offered the 29-year-old just over half his current salary due to financial constraints.

Kainz currently earns an annual salary of €1,5 million, but has been offered a new deal worth just €800,000 per season, per the report.
