Sport Bild Report: Augsburg close to hiring BVB II trainer Maaßen

Reporter Tobias Altschäffl of German tabloid "Sport Bild" reports that current BVB II trainer Enrico Maaßen is a top candidate for FC Augsburg's vacant trainer position.
Apart from some loose links with FC St. Gallen head-coach Peter Zeidler a few weeks back, there's been little to no news on the status of FC Augsburg's search for a new gaffer. The Fuggerstädter trainer post has remained vacant since Markus Weinzierl announced his departure after the final game of the season.

According to a report appearing in the Sunday edition of German tabloid Sport Bild, sporting director Stefan Reuter and the FCA administrative team have their eyes on BVB II trainer Enrico Maaßen. The 38-year-old guided the Dortmund reserves to promotion to the 2. Bundesliga during the 2020/21 campaign. Maaßen's lads finished ninth the year.

Sprot Bild reporter Tobias Altschäffl notes that the links with Ziedler were largely spurious. Recently released TSG Hoffenheim trainer Sebastian Hoeneß--a former coach of the FC Bayern reserves--was contacted. Hoeneß nevertheless recently confirmed that he wished to take some time off before considering another appointment.

Altschäffl claims that Maaßen's appointment could be just around the corner. Specific details that "still must be clarified" include a transfer fee to the BVB; at which Maaßen remains under contract through 2024.
