Demichelis leaves Bayern role to become coach of River Plate
Martin Demichelis is leaving his job as Bayern reserve coach to take over as head coach of River Plate.
Bayern Munich have announced that Martin Demichelis will leave his position as coach of the club's reserve team.
The 48-year-old former Bayern and Argentina player has been named head coach of his boyhood club River Plate in Buenos Aires.
"Martín has received an offer to take over as head coach at one of the biggest clubs in South America. We did not want to deny him this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and have agreed to his wish to terminate his contract," commented Bayern board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic.
"Nevertheless, I am sad to see him leave. I played with Martín for FC Bayern, he's an honest character and has a clear idea of the type of football he wants as coach. We're also required to develop coaches at the Campus. Martín has done very well at FC Bayern and we wish him every success in his return to River Plate."
Demichelis will be succeeded by his predecessor Holger Seitz, who has most recently worked as sporting director at the Bayern campus.
"Holger Seitz has been working at the Campus for many years. He helped shape and implement our training philosophy. He knows exactly what our reserve team is all about," said head of the FC Bayern campus Jochen Sauer.
"With him, we want to achieve continuity in the coaching position and are delighted he's made himself available for this important job again. We thank Martín for his services at the Campus and wish him all the best in his new role at River Plate."
