When Julian Nagelsmann announced his Germany squad for the friendlies against France and the Netherlands in March, Leon Goretzka wasn't included.
Although this doesn't bode well for the 29-year-old's chances of making the squad, he remains hopeful of a call-up.
"I'm extremely motivated, I want to continue to impress with top performances like I did recently and I'll take on whatever role Julian has in mind for me. I'm sure we can achieve a lot together," said Goretzka.
The return of Toni Kroos doesn't worry Goretzka, although the Real Madrid midfielder also operates in the middle of the park.
"You don't need too much knowledge to understand that Toni and I are very different players. I have a very good relationship with Toni and I'm happy to have him back," said Goretzka.
“Against France and the Netherlands, we've seen the impact he can have on games. We can all benefit from that, and the whole of Germany can benefit from that.”
