Kicker Report: Serious muscle injury looks set to keep Silva in Leipzig

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that Leipzig striker André Silva's muscle injury is actually a serious cluster tear. The Portuguese international looks set to be out until early September.

Accordingly, transfer interest has cooled.
In news reported both in the Thursday print edition and online, Germany's Kicker Magazine claims that the muscle injury that sidelined Portuguese attacker André Silva just prior to the club's DFB Pokal Final victory is actually a serious tear of a cluster of muscles. Given the severity of the injury, the 27-year-old probably won't even be expected back in time to open the season with his current club.

The news obviously has serious ramifications for the want-away striker's prospects of moving on to another club. Kicker reports that Atletico Madrid and SL Benfica are withdrawing their interest for now until after the €20-million-valued player completes his extended recovery path. Silva just completed a second relatively disappointing campaign with the German Red Bulls and has seen his value halved since moving from Frankfurt.
