Official: Reyna receives BVB contract extension and loan out to Forest

American attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna's loan-out to Nottingham Forest was officially confirmed late Wednesday evening. The arrangement is short-term-lease with no purchase option.

As a means of emphasizing the club's commitment to the young talent, the 21-year-old also received a one-year contract extension with his parent club.
After another year in which injuries and the competitive nature of the Borussia Dortmund roster saw him garner little playing time, Giovanni Reyna has received his sought-after loan-out. The 21-year-old follows in his father Claudio's footsteps and heads to the English Premiership. A loan-deal with Nottingham Forest in the pipeline for some time was officially completed this evening.

Dortmund's arrangement with Forest remains a short-term deal. Gio will represent the Reds for only six months. A purchase option is not included in the deal. As a means of emphasizing their mutual commitment to one another, Reyna and Dortmund extended the attacker's BVB contract by a further year. The 24-times-capped USMNT international's working papers in Germany now run through 2026.

"We are delighted that we were able to extend Gio's contract for another year ahead of schedule," Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a club statement, "He is a player who possesses enormous skills and in whom we still see a lot of potential. We have complied with his wish and now wish Gio maximum sporting success for his six months in England."
