Hertha chief: 'Niklas Stark is burning for his chance'

Niklas Stark is likely to be given a chance to prove himself when Hertha BSC face Wolfsburg away from home on Saturday.
Niklas Stark has slipped down the pecking order at Hertha BSC since Jürgen Klinsmann took over as coach in November.

The centre-back watched Hertha's last three games of 2019 from the bench and missed last week's 0-4 loss to Bayern München due to a cold.

But with Dedryck Boyata out with suspension, Stark could finally be given the chance to prove himself in Saturday's away clash with Wolfsburg.

"[Boyata's] absense hurts, but we have guys in the position who want to prove themselves," Hertha chief Michael Preetz said in an interview with Kicker and added:

"Niklas is burning for his chance. He has prepared very well."

Meanwhile, Jürgen Klinsmann has hinted that Stark will probably start on Sunday:

"It's quite possible that Niklas will now be given a big chance to show what he can do," Klinsmann told Kicker.

Stark has made 14 appearances for Hertha this season.
