David Alaba says he believes his Bayern München teammate Robert Lewandowski deserves to win the Ballon d'Or award.

When asked if he feels it's Lewandowski's time to take home the annual award given to the world's best player, Alaba told Goal.com:

"I hope so, he deserves it. I see how hard he works every day."

In Tuesday's 3-0 win over Chelsea in the Champions League, Lewandowski set up both of Serge Gnabry's goals, demonstrating that he doesn't just have an eye for goals, but for his teammates as well.

"He's a world-class player and a world-class striker. We all know that he can score goals and he showed another side of himself today by giving assists. We know that he is very important to us and we're grateful to have him in our squad," Alaba said and added:

"He shows it every weekend – he's one of the best and maybe the best striker in the world."

Lewandowski has played 33 games for Bayern this season with 39 goals and five assists to his name.
