Arsene Wenger nearly joined Bayern München, claims Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says Arsene Wenger nearly landed in Munich in the 90's.
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was close to being appointed Bayern München coach in the past, claims the CEO of the German champions, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"He nearly landed in Munich in the early 1990s. I met with him for lunch in Nice along with Franz Beckenbauer and Uli Hoeness. We reached an agreement after our meal, but then Arsene strangely turned us down," Rummenigge told France Football, according to Bild.

"In my opinion, he has always been a great gentleman, and he did a remarkable job at Arsenal," he continued.

Wenger, 70, was linked with Bayern in November after Niko Kovac's dismissal, but the Bavarians gave the job to Hansi Flick.
