Bayern coach Hansi Flick dismisses Götze links

Hansi Flick insists he is not working on bringing back Mario Götze to Bayern München.
Bayern München coach Hansi Flick has dismissed speculation that he's interested in signing Mario Götze, who has been a free agent since his Borussia Dortmund contract expired at the end of last season.

According to Sport Bild, Flick called Götze last week as he's looking into the possibility of signing the 28-year-old, who he got know while working as an assistant coach for Germany.

But speaking on a press conference on Wednesday ahead of Bayern München's Super Cup clash with Sevilla on Thursday, Flick played down the rumors.

"I have had frequent contact with him since my time with the national team. I have high regard for Mario and know where his strengths lie. But he's not an option for us at the moment," he said.

Bayern München captain Manuel Neuer praised his former teammate when asked about the speculation.

"Mario is a very good player, who knows the environment. He said himself that he absolutely wants to win the Champions League. He's very ambitious, and I know him as a player, who is always in good shape. We'll see where he lands."

"It's up to the bosses to decide whether he is a topic for us. But I'm confident he would be able to do well at Bayern."

Götze played for Bayern from 2014 to 2017, playing 114 games with 36 goals and 24 assists to his name.
