In the aftermath of Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 win in their last-16 second-leg tie against LOSC Lille which saw them advance 3-2 on aggregate, Emre Can expressed his delight to the media.

"Very, very relieved [to advance]. To be honest, I had a feeling today before the game [that we would win]. Many [people] don't believe in us and thought we would fail here.

"In the first-half where we conceded a goal that shouldn't happen. We lose the ball out of nowhere and then concede the goal.

"Then you have chances and don't score. Suddenly it's 1-0 [to Lille] at half-time and you have doubts.

"But at half-time we said we are going to go out there and we're going to go for it, tackle them, be intense and see what happens. I thought we were brilliant in the second-half," he added.

Can went on to praise his side's intensity which got them back into the game and allayed fears over a potential dispute with Serhou Guirassy regarding penalty-taking duties.

"It's a good sign, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Serhou wants to shoot, I want to shoot. We both want to help the team.

"In the end, I managed to score. That was nice, but in the end it doesn't matter who shoots. The main thing is the ball goes in," the 31-year-old explained.

Can finished up by lauding two hard-working teammates in Maxi Beier and Julian Brandt, before stating the team will require that same intensity and aggressiveness for Saturday's clash with RB Leipzig.
