DFB suspends and fines Hübner in Amiri case, Teuchert receives warning

The German FA's control committee issued its ruling in case involving racial abuse directed at Leverkusen's Nadiem Amiri.

Union Berlin's Florian Hübner receives a two-match suspension and a fine of €20,000.

FC Union Berlin defender Florian Hübner reacted professionally and calmly to a verdict handed down by the DFB-Kontrol-Auschuß early on Thursday evening. The committee's final ruling declined to affirm that the 29-year-old Eisern-Union defender had used racist language; instead sanctioning him on a more general "unsportsmanlike conduct" charge.

According to some reports, Hübner referred to Amiri's Afghan heritage in an insult directed at the national team player. Hübner, who is married to a woman of Indian descent, denied this charge. Amiri himself did not assert that a racial epitaph was used.

"Any kind of of xenophobia and discrimination is abhorred by myself and within my family," Hübner said in a statement, "for my behavior in the verbal altercation I have been rightly punished. Of fundamental importance to me is that the DFB says that my remarks were not racist or discriminatory in any way."

The sports court also investigated Hübner's teammate Cedric Teuchert and concluded that no violation of the unsportsmanlike conduct statutes had taken place. "Teuchert was advised to pay better attention to his choice of words on the pitch in the future," the ruling noted.
