Roma & Mourinho target veteran Bundesliga shot-stopper

Borussia Monchengladbach’s Swiss shot-stopper Yann Sommer has come into contention for a move away from Die Fohlen at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho’s plans to reinforce his next season squad in the Italian capital has been gaining traction in recent weeks.

Reports of the ex-Inter manager keen on bringing in one certain Marcel Sabitzer of Leipzig to the Giallorossi is already circulating, and now another is on the wishlist.

Sommer has been a consistent presence in the Gladbach backline ever since his move from the Swiss Super League in 2014/15. Roma and newly appointed Mourinho are said to be looking out for a goalkeeping reinforcement – according to reports from Italy and Corriere dello Sport in particular.

Two goalkeepers are wanted by Roma, a short-term veteran and a long-term youngster.

The veterans shortlisted by the club include Sommer and Wolverhampton Wanderer’s Rui Patricio. Lille’s 25-year-old Mike Maignan is being targeted as a potential long-term solution.

Since Alisson’s departure to Liverpool in 2018, Robin Olsen, Antonio Mirante and Pau Lopez have appeared for the capital side between the sticks, but none have come close to establishing a commanding presence as the No.1.

Sommer, 32, will come in the region of €10m – with his contract in Germany expiring in June 2023.
