Nielsen's contract was originally going to end on July 1st, but now he will be a Fürth player for at least one more season as he penned a one-year-deal until 2022.

The announcement comes after Fürth gained automatic promotion from the 2. Bundesliga, with Nielsen contributing 11 goals to the unexpected success.

Kleeblatt's coach, Stefan Leitl, said: "I think everyone knows how important 'Howie' is for our team. Not only on the pitch with his tireless efforts and a great finisher, but also off the pitch with his experience as a leading player."

The 27-year-old joined the Bavarian side two years ago and since has played 65 games. Rachid Azzouzi, the managing director, said: "I am very happy that we came to an agreement quickly and that we are going to tackle the Bundesliga together. 'Howie' played a great season and will of course continue to play a key role in our team in the coming season."
