Report: Demarai Gray linked with quick return to EPL

Britain's "Times" newspaper links Leverkusen winger Demarai Gray with Everton FC in the English Premiership.

It has long been understood that Germany's red company team has effectively nothing to lose by allowing an EPL club to trigger the 25-year-old's exit clause.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen acquired Demarai Gray on what was effectively a free transfer during the most recent January window. Die Werkself were able to purchase the Birmingham native at what many considered to be a bargain basement price. Bayer paid just €2 million to Leicester City for the winger, then fully insured their purchase by building an exit clause for the exact same amount into the Bundesliga contract Gray signed through 2022.

Gray got of to an excellent start in the Bundesliga, registering a scorer point in his first three matches between the 20th and 22nd rounds. After bagging a goal and two assists, however, some more suspect performances in Leverkusen's Europa League elimination and a form drop in the late stages of head-coach Peter Bosz's tenure meant he dropped out of use. Interim trainer Hannes Wolf started him only twice.

If Leverkusen can find a taker for Gray, they can easily recoup the money spent on the player and possibly turn a quick profit. New Everton gaffer Rafa Beneitez is said to be enthusiastic about bringing the 25-year-old back to the Isle.
