Stefan Posch, who was on loan from Como 1907 to Mainz 05 for the second half of last season, will continue to play for the club.

The 29-year-old central defender has now been signed permanently from the Serie A club. Both clubs have agreed to keep the transfer fee confidential.

Posch, an Austrian international, also brings great versatility to Urs Fischer's side with his ability to play as a centre-half or right full-back.

“Poschi joined us last winter to try and secure a spot on Austria's World Cup squad, and he immediately made a significant contribution,” said sporting director Niko Bungert.

"Stefan integrated extremely quickly and instantly improved our team. He's a versatile player with a wealth of experience in the Bundesliga and on the international stage.

"It's no coincidence that he's been a regular starter for the Austrian national team for several years.

"He's repeatedly demonstrated his abilities and how important he can be for Mainz 05 over the past six months.

“On top of that, he's a fantastic guy who fits perfectly into the team dynamic. We're delighted that Poschi wanted to stay with Mainz.”
