St. Pauli attacker suffers "complex" knee injury

St. Pauli's Mathias Pereira Lage is facing a long spell on the sidelines.

Mathias Pereira Lage suffered a serious knee injury in training with FC St. Pauli on Wednesday, the Bundesliga club have confirmed.

Medical examinations have revealed a “complex” injury involving a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The 29-year-old attacker is now expected to be sidelined for several months.

The injury is a major setback for St. Pauli, who are currently 16th in the Bundesliga table and battling to avoid relegation.

Pereira Lage has been a regular starter for the Hamburg-based side this season, scoring three goals and laying on two assists in 32 appearances.
