Union Berlin are unbeaten in four games after they recorded back-to-back draws from losing positions. Just like the weekend’s home game against Mainz, supersub Marin Ljubicic scored the equalizing goal for Steffen Baumgart’s side away at Augsburg.

“You should never write us off!” said Rani Khedira in his post-match interview. “One of our strengths is that we can bring fresh energy and quality from the bench. That shows our fantastic team spirit. We certainly had the better chances in the first half, but they scored an incredibly beautiful goal. We ultimately deserved the goal.”

Baumgart agrees with the assessment of the former Augsburg defensive midfielder. “We played a very good first half, which then ended with a screamer. Unfortunately, not for us. Even with ten men, the lads gave it their all again to earn a point.”

Union Berlin will once again be on the road this Sunday as they face fourth-placed VfB Stuttgart in the opening round of Rückrunde.
