FC Schalke 04 will have to manage without their captain for their first competitive match of the new season.
The newly-promoted Bundesliga side announced on Tuesday that Kenan Karaman will miss their DFB-Pokal first-round clash against Hallescher FC on Monday.
Karaman suffered a heavy fall on his hip during a friendly against Atalanta earlier this month.
Since then, fluid has built up around the affected area, which was drained during a short procedure on Monday.
As a result, the 32-year-old attacking player will miss Monday’s clash with Hallescher, with Schalke hopeful of having him fit for their Bundesliga opener against Augsburg on August 30.
