A few days ago it was reported that Davie Selke and FC Köln would go their separate ways this summer.

This has now been confirmed by the 29-year-old striker, who has taken to Instagram to announce that he hasn't been able to agree a new contract with the relegated Bundesliga club.

"Hello dear FC fans. I don't really know what to write," Selke wrote, adding:

“I felt very good in Cologne and at FC. It's no secret that I could have imagined to stay with you. This chance was finally taken away from me. Thank you for the short but intense time! You are and will remain in my heart. 🙏🏾 Your Davie.”

What exactly led to the breakdown in negotiations is unclear, but it wasn't Selke's salary demands, according to Sky Germany.

Selke played 38 games for Köln and scored 11 goals. He has been linked with a move to Hamburger SV.
