16-year-old Hertha BSC midfielder Kennet Eichhorn faces a major decision regarding his future heading into the summer transfer window, with a long list of European top clubs reportedly interested in signing him.

With Borussia Dortmund among his reported suitors, head coach Niko Kovač was recently asked about Eichhorn on the Bild podcast ‘Phrasenmäher’.

While Kovač avoided going too much into detail out of respect for the player’s contract situation, he still made clear how highly he rates the 16-year-old.

“I don’t like to talk about players from other clubs, but we do have something in common: he is a Hertha player, I was a Hertha player,” Kovač said.

“He’s a great player who has huge potential and, like a few others, is the future of German football,” he added.

Eichhorn, who has a €10-12 million release clause in his contract, has enjoyed a breakthrough season with Hertha and has made 18 appearances for the 2. Bundesliga side so far.
