2. Bundesliga: Magdeburg extend winning streak against wasteful Kiel

Magdeburg extended their winning streak in all competitions to three games with a 2-0 win over Holstein Kiel on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors started slowly, but they had the best chances throughout the first 45 minutes. Phil Harres, who scored in each of the first two matchdays, had a couple of decent opportunities in the middle of a penalty-kick decision that was reversed after a VAR check. There were five yellow cards in the first-half dominated by reckless fouls.

Kiel should've taken the lead five minutes after the restart, but Adrian Kapralik's free header missed the target from close range. The referee Jarno Wienefeld booked five Magdeburg players by the 65th minute mark as the hosts struggled once again in front of their fans.

However, a familiar connection suddenly found the breakthrough to lead them to a first home win. Baris Atik showed once again his playmaking qualities by finding Mateusz Źukowski inside the box. Last season's sensation scored his second goal of the campaign with a brilliant finish.

Luka Hyryläinen sealed the three points for Petrik Sander's side after a short corner-kick routine ten minutes before time. Tim Walter's men are now in 17th place with only two points, while Magdeburg won three games in a row without conceding a goal after starting the season with a 6-1 home defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig.
