"It's always about appreciation" – Bayern star on stalled contract talks

Konrad Laimer has opened up about his contract talks with Bayern Munich, saying that a potential extension ultimately comes down to "appreciation" — and that the performances he has delivered over the past few years need to be properly recognised.

Last month, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl revealed that the club's contract talks with Konrad Laimer over an extension beyond 2027 had been put on hold, as the ideas of the club and the player and his representatives didn’t “align.”

In an interview with Servus TV (via Fussballtransfers), Laimer has now given his version of the situation.

“Ultimately, it’s always about appreciation. That the performances you’ve delivered over the past years are recognised in some way,” he said when asked about his future.

He added that there haven’t been any concrete negotiations between him and the club regarding an extension.

“There was a brief conversation once, then there wasn’t any again. Since then, more has been written than anything is actually true.”

Given he still has one year left on his contract, the Austrian international also made it clear that he remains “completely relaxed” about his future and that playing for Bayern is “a lot of fun.”

Whether he will stay beyond 2027 remains uncertain, though.

“Let’s see where the journey takes us,” the versatile Austrian international said, keeping his options open.
