With Borussia Dortmund set to kick off 2026 against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, Nico Schlotterbeck’s future remains uncertain.

The Black and Yellows have been in talks with the centre-back over a contract extension for some time, but, as reported by Bild, he is continuing to bide his time while weighing his options.

Bayern Munich have been mentioned as a potential destination for Schlotterbeck, but Real Madrid currently appear to be the favourites, according to the report.

With Dayot Upamecano reportedly set to extend his contract at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid will need to look elsewhere as they consider replacing Antonio Rüdiger and Schlotterbeck could become their top target.

Meanwhile, Bayern are not completely out of the race despite Upamecano’s extension, as they may need to find a replacement for Kim Minjae, whose future remains uncertain.
