Stuttgart recovered from last week’s heavy defeat to FC Bayern with a 4-1 reverse against Köln on Friday. Summer signing Grischa Prömel scored the all-important second goal right when the visitors enjoyed their best spell of the game at the start of the second-half.
“I couldn’t have imagined a better home debut. It’s an all-round successful night for us,” said the midfielder who will travel to his former club Hoffenheim on matchday 3. “The performance was really good, and even after Köln’s period of pressure at the start of the second half, we regrouped. It was a lot of fun.”
Stuttgart’s coach Sebastian Hoeneß also felt it was a deserved victory for the Champions League participants. “We delivered exactly what we set out to do on the pitch. The lads played with intensity, pressure and speed, which was good. We scored very nice goals, and it was a well-earned win.” said the 44-year-old.
His opposite side René Wagner also conceded the hosts deserved the points. “It was a deserved victory for Stuttgart. We rarely managed to provide relief in the first half. In the second half, my team showed a very good start and had the opportunities to settle in. Unfortunately, they scored the second goal. It was difficult after that.” concluded the visiting coach.
