Vincent Kompany pushed and campaigned a lot internally for Alphonso Davies to extend his contract last year, BILD has revealed.

The head coach argued with the Bavarian club's bosses that the Canadian full-back was a crucial component of his system.

Kompany paid particular tribute to Davies' recovery pace that allows him to cover a lot of open space behind the high backline.

Kompany hopes to have Davies fit for their upcoming games against Real Madrid, and is deemed vital against their quick forwards.

Stopping counters has been in focus during Bayern's preparation in recent weeks, according to the popular tabloid's report.

Despite recieving praise and seen as vital for Kompany, there are rumours suggesting the 24-year-old could be sold in summer.
