Leipzig confirm Ouedraogo signing
Assan Ouedraogo | RB Leipzig |
Following reports of the signing yesterday, RB Leipzig officially confirmed the acquisition of teenage talent Assan Ouedraogo on Thursday afternoon. The 18-year-old rejoins RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder, under whom he worked at FC Schalke 04. Ouedraogo inked a five-year-deal in the Saxon capital. Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that the German Red Bulls have paid approximately €10 million to secure the youngster's services.
“With the signing of Assan Ouedraogo, we were able to bring an absolutely exceptional talent to RB Leipzig,” Schröder noted in a club statement, “Assan has chosen us and our path - despite several offers from other top clubs in the Bundesliga and Europe. "His skills are a perfect fit for our style of play and he can play in any position in midfield. Assan is intelligent, athletic and technically outstanding."
"I'm very happy to be part of RB Leipzig from July onwards," the player himself added, "It's obviously a big step for me, but I'm ready for this new challenge and I'm looking forward to everything that awaits me in Leipzig. I had ten great years at FC Schalke 04. Everything I've learned about football so thus far, I've learned at Schalke and I'm very grateful for that time. Now I have the confidence to take on the next exciting challenge."
Schröder's statement also noted that the club would "give [Ouedraogo] ample time to develop". It's conceivable that Schröder and the club front office may wish to loan the Germany U17 World Champion out to another club in order to aid his prospects for playing time. Ouedraogo has no Bundesliga experience as of yet. He only made his professional debut this past season, making 17 2. Bundesliga appearances for die Königsblauen.
