Marcel Sabitzer's spell at Borussia Dortmund could soon be coming to an end, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.

The local outlet reports that the 32-year-old already left the club's annual pre-season dinner on Sunday just as the final members of the squad arrived.

Whether the incident was related to Sabitzer's situation in the squad is unclear.

However, with Joey Veerman set to arrive from PSV and add further competition in midfield, the Austrian international is expected to slip further down the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park.

Sabitzer has just one year remaining on his contract, making this summer a logical time for BVB to cash in on the midfielder.

The main obstacle is his reported €8 million annual salary, as it may prove difficult to find a club willing to match his current wages.
