Working as a color commentator during ESPN's Friday night coverage of the Borussia Dortmund-VfB Stuttgart match, Saint Louis City SC sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel mused about the future of BVB midfielder Axel Witsel. Play-by-play partner Derek Rae specifically pressed Pfannenstiel about the future destination of the 33-year-old Belgian international, who sits on an expiring contract.

"There are many rumors about him," Pfannenstiel remarked, "MLS is one of the destinations being talked about. It will be interesting to see what he decides."

One should become accustomed to the fact that all of Pfannenstiel's remarks whilst working in his color-commentary role will continue to spark transfer rumors. Message boards for the new St. Louis club were jammed on Saturday morning with speculation that the former Fortuna Düsseldorf manager had tangible plans for bringing his fourth Bundesliga player to the newly formed MLS side.

Transfermarkt's German website--after consultation with its stateside team--actually reports that Witsel is an active target of the two Los Angeles franchises; LA Galaxy and LAFC. The report appearing on the German transfermarkt website also notes older rumors linking Witsel with Benfica Lisbon and his old youth club Standard Liege.
