Injury issues lead to collapse of Singh's Bremen move
Kicker magazine SV Werder Bremen correspondent Tim Lüddecke reported early on Sunday that the Hanseaten decided against obtaining Bayern attacking midfield prospect Sarpreet Singh.
The 23-year-old reportedly had chronic medical issues that will preclude any other loan or transfer. SV scouting director Clemens Fritz then confirmed the collapse of the deal.
A deal to bring New Zealand international Sarpreet Singh to SV Werder Bremen has collapsed. Tim Lüddecke of German footballing magazine Kicker reported early in the day that the newly promoted Hanseaten opted against the transfer after considering the 23-year-old's recent history with pelvic inflammation.
The 23-year-old reportedly had chronic medical issues that will preclude any other loan or transfer. SV scouting director Clemens Fritz then confirmed the collapse of the deal.
According to Lüddecke, Singh didn't even end up completing a scheduled medical. The club simply took into account the nature of the injury, which could potentially sideline the player for up to three or four months. Even at a reported economical transfer price tag of €400,000, Bremen thought the move too risky.
It's unclear what will happen with Singh--a subject of fascination within many German footballing circles--next. For the time being, the attacking midfielder will rehab his injury at the Säbener Straße. Presumably, he will remain with the FCB next season as the champions will find it difficult to find another loan deal for him.
"We are still personally and professionally completely convinced of Sarpreet," SV scouting director Clemens Fritz told Bremen's Deichstübe fansite when confirming the cancelled transaction, "but we do not have the economic means to commit a player who is not immediately available to us."
