Union Berlin vs. Augsburg preview: Can Union continue their impressive home form?

Union Berlin will look to claim a seventh consecutive home victory in all competitions, when they play host to Augsburg on Wednesday.

Union Berlin

Union Berlin will attempt to return to winning ways after being thrashed by Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

Following a goalless first half, Union conceded three goals in 12 minutes before Leverkusen added two more to the total to wrap up a comprehensive 5-0 win. The result represented Union's third defeat of the Bundesliga season, while it also ended a run of three straight victories in all competitions.

Despite losing two of their last three Bundesliga games, Union are in third place and they will move within two points of league leaders Bayern Munich with a win on Wednesday.

Urs Fischer's side will be looking to continue their impressive home form, after avoiding defeat in their last 12 home league games, with their last three resulting in victory. They have also won their last six matches in all competitions at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, conceding only one goal in that period.
Team News

The hosts are without the services of András Schäfer and Frederik Rønnow due to injury issues, while Kevin Möhwald is a doubt.

Augsburg

After recording three consecutive victories in the Bundesliga, Augsburg have failed to win any of their last six league games.

Augsburg took the lead within 60 seconds in Saturday's home meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt, but Mergim Berisha's opener was cancelled out by Sebastian Rode in the 13th minute before Ansgar Knauff completed the turnaround with a second half strike.

As a result, Enrico Maaßen's side have lost both of their last two matches by a 2-1 scoreline, leaving them in 14th place with three points separating them from the relegation playoff.

If Augsburg are to claim a positive result on Wednesday then they will need to improve defensively after conceding 15 goals in their previous five games in all competitions.

Although, they can at least take confidence from the fact that they have only lost one of their six Bundesliga games against Union.
Team News

Augsburg have a number of injuries to contend with, including Niklas Dorsch, Noah Sarenren-Bazee and Tobias Strobl. They are also without Raphael Framberger and Andre Hahn, while there are doubts over Arne Maier's availability.
