Maximilian Mittelstädt played a big part in Stuttgart’s third successive win in the Europa League against Maccabi Tel Aviv. On his 100th appearance for Stuttgart, the left-back assisted Lorenzo Assignon’s first goal for the club before joining the scoresheet himself from a penalty-kick in a 4-1 victory.
“In the end, it’s important that we won,” said Mittelstädt after the game. “However, we have to manage to be wide awake for the entire match,” insisted the German international regarding Maccabi Tel Aviv’s best spell late in the game.
Alexander Nübel, who is still on loan from Bayern Munich, also reached 100 games for the club on Thursday night. “We can go into our ‘European winter break’ with satisfaction, even if we weren’t consistent enough in the second half,” said the goalkeeper.
Stuttgart collected 12 points from their first six European games this season. Sebastian Hoeneß' team will face AS Roma and Young Boys in their last two league phase fixtures in the Europa League.
