Borussia Dortmund's Champions League duties led them to a meeting with FK Bodø/Glimt this evening. The hosts, labelled heavy favourites in this tie, were frustrated at the final whistle as the visitors responded twice to grab a 2-2 draw and dent BVB's direct qualification hopes.
Amazingly, Bodø/Glimt who came closer to finding the net in the initial 10 minutes. Twice, it was domestic top-scorer Kasper Hogh going close. His second, more powerful effort forced Gregor Kobel to push it onto the base of the post spectacularly.
Dortmund eventually settled and it wasn't long until they acquired a 1-0 lead on 18 minutes. A mistake from Haitam Aleesami allowed Fabío Silva to bear down on goal before slipping a pass to his left where Julian Brandt thumped past Nikita Haikin.
Maxi Beier ought to have added a second just minutes later - Silva turned provider but the 23-year-old's header sailed to the right of the post. Niko Kovač's men were then dealt a blow as Waldemar Anton's night ended early through injury on the half-hour.
After a momentary lull in the game, the Norwegian side regained some control and pulled level before the break. A routine set-piece corner taken short was whipped in precisely by Patrick Berg. Arriving on cue was Aleesami to rectify his earlier mistake.
Parity was short-lived in truth. Dortmund took all of six minutes after the restart to go back in front. Yan Couto's cross found Beier who was repelled by Haikin, but Brandt displayed his experience by following in and sliding the rebound into the empty net.
Roared on by their home support, Beier went close again after some neat link-up play involving Svensson, Silva and Nmecha. Bodø's Russian shot-stopper featured again around the hour - Anselmino's headed effort pushed away on the goal-line.
Both sides rang in changes with 20 minutes left, but in a flash it was 2-2. With Dortmund down a man through Aaron Anselmino's injury, Evjen bundled the ball into ex-Frankfurt winger Jens Hauge who lay waiting on the box where he sent Kobel the wrong way.
The Norwegian side could have snatched it late on when Kobel prevented Svensson from steering the ball into his own net. A total of five minutes of additional time arrived but substitutes Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi offered little in attack.
