Eintracht Frankfurt’s slim hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stage faced a further setback with a 2-1 defeat in Barcelona. However, Dino Toppmöller is satisfied with his team’s performance compared to the embarrassing display in Leipzig last Saturday.

“Their reaction after the game at the weekend was perfect,” said Toppmöller in his post-match interview. “We implemented what we had planned for the game. Our focus was primarily on our attitude, commitment, and the willingness to stand up for each other. We executed the defensive plan exceptionally well,

“We saw that we can hurt Barcelona when the opportunity arises, like our goal. We came out of the locker room with confidence, had a good spell, and were eager to score a second goal. Then, unfortunately, we conceded a goal that was very difficult to defend. In the end, it's frustrating that we conceded the first goal”.

Before half of the teams play their matchday six games tomorrow, Frankfurt dropped to 30th place in the Champions League standings. After the Winterpause, Toppmöller’s team will travel to Qarabağ before closing the league phase at home against Tottenham Hotspur.
