Report: Cedric Soares loan a topic at Leverkusen

American sports broadcaster ESPN reports that, in addition to Fulham FC and Villarreal CF, Bayer 04 Leverkusen are interested in bringing Arsenal's Cedric Soares in on loan for the second half of the season.

An almost non-existent role under Arsenal head-coach Mikel Arteta renders Portuguese fullback Cedric Soares a prime candidate for a January loan-out. The 31-year-old 34-times-capped international, who remains contractually bound to the north London club for another 18-months, is said to be a topic of interest at numerous clubs according to American broadcaster ESPN.

In addition to mentioning Villarreal CF and Fulham FC as potential suitors, ESPN throws Germany's red company team into the mix in a report published today. Soares was actually born in Singen, Baden-Württemberg to Portuguese parents. Though the defender returned to his native country at a very young age, some tangential connections with the Bundesrepublik might leave him interested in a move.

The ESPN report notes that Arsenal are considering a winter loan-out with a purchase option. The report further notes that Fulham remain in the "pole position" to conclude a loan arrangement with the Gunners. Such a deal would be the most convenient for Soares as he would not have to leave London.
