Report: Mainz offload Fulgini

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that FSV Mainz 05 have completed a deal to offload transfer flop Angelo Fulgini.

After shelling out some €7 million for him this past summer, FSV Mainz 05 have been disappointed with the development of attacking midfielder Angelo Fulgini. The 26-year-old has drifted in and out of Bo Svensson's starting XI, garnering just one assist amid 16 league appearances this year.

Fulgini became expendable after improved play by fellow summer acquisition Aymen Barkok at his position in the games since the Bundesliga returned from the World Cup break. Moreover, the high profile acquisition of striker Ludovic Ajorque left the club in need of some payroll relief.

It is such that, according to German footballing magazine Kicker, Mainz have worked out a loan arrangement with RC Lens in Fulgini's native France. Kicker journalist Michael Ebert claims that the loan has an automatic purchase option of approximately €7.5 million built in.

The move, of which official confirmation is still pending, amounts to a clear offloading of the former French youth international; one that enables die Nullfünfter to turn a slight profit on their investment. Lens presumably registered the player last night, but have not yet introduced him.
