Borussia Dortmund took the first step towards qualification to the Champions League's quarter-finals by securing a hard-earned 1-0 win over Chelsea at Signal Iduna Park tonight in the first leg of the last-16 tie between the two sides.

In a closely contested game with chances at both ends of the pitch, Karim Adeyemi scored the winner with 63 minutes on the clock.

After being sent racing away on the counter, Adeyemi skipped past Enzo Fernandez, prodded the ball beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga before sending the ball into the open net.

Chelsea fought hard to find the equaliser, but Dortmund withstood the pressure and sealed an important win.
