Bayern Munich board member Hasan Salihamidzic has slammed the performance of the German champions in their 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

It started as planned for Bayern when Joshua Kimmich made it 1-0 midway through the first half, but Leverkusen turned the game around in the second half to win 2-1 thanks to two Exequiel Palacios penalties.

Discussing the performance after the game, a frustrated Salihamidzic claimed Bayern were "inferior in all areas".

"That's not what Bayern means," the Bayern coach fumed.

"We were inferior in all areas.

"Confidence or not, we have to bring [our] mentality and greed to the pitch. This is a championship [race].

"We had two shots on goal in the last few minutes, but so little drive, mentality, assertiveness. I've rarely experienced that.

"This team is so good when the mentality is right from the start, but just as bad when they don't and think they can do everything with their quality.

The defeat meant Bayern failed to regain first place from Borussia Dortmund, who now head into the international break as league leaders, with the German champions sitting one point behind their rivals ahead of their April 1 clash.
