According to Kicker, the German team practiced build-up play in a 4-2-2-2 formation during the 36-year-old's first training session in the United States.
Joshua Kimmich played in central midfield, unlike in Hansi Flick's last game in charge, where he was deployed at right-back.
Germany captain Ilkay Gündogan was upbeat after the training session, saying:
"You can see the drive, you can see the motivation. It was a good session where you could see that tactically and technically, it's already at a high level."
Germany face the United States in their first game under Nagelsmann on Saturday. Four days later, they take on Mexico.
