Report: David Wagner set to be named new Schalke coach

David Wagner is expected to be appointed new Schalke 04 coach.
Former Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner is set to take over the position as head coach of Schalke 04 this summer, Bild reports.

According to the German news outlet, Schalke head of sport Jochen Schneider and Wagner have reached an agreement in principle that would see the 47-year-old take over the job from interim coach Huub Stevens at the end of the season.

Stevens has worked as an interim coach since Domenico Tedesco was sacked in the middle of March.

Wagner, who has previously worked as a coach for the under-23 team of Schalke's local rivals Borussia Dortmund, is said to have visited Schalke chairman Clemens Tönnies at his home - and when that happens, it usually means that the search for a new coach is over.

Dieter Hecking, who will leave his position as Borussia Mönchengladbach coach in the summer, has also been linked with the job.
