Amine Harit: Schalke wanted to sell me

Amine Harit reveals that Schalke 04 wanted to sell him a year ago.
Amine Harit has rediscovered his top level after a difficult 2018/19 campaign that could have seen him leave Schalke 04.

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild, Harit reveals that he had a conversation with Schalke's now former head of sport Christian Heidel a year ago in which he was encouraged to look for a new club.

"The club wanted to sell me. Christian Heidel talked of problems and said, 'Amine, if you have an opportunity that can help you and it's good for Schalke, it's no problem for us.' But there was no good alternative. So I decided to stay which was the right decision. If I should leave Schalke one day, I want to do it with a positive image. I want everyone to say that Amine Harit was a great player for Schalke," Harit said.

Since Heidel was replaced by Jochen Schneider and David Wagner arrived as coach, Harit has managed to bounce back.

"Many didn't believe that I could reach my current level again and bounce back so quickly. But David Wagner and Jochen Schneider helped me a lot and always backed me up. I say quite clearly that the coach is the best for me," he said.

Harit has made 19 appearances this season, racking up six goals and six assists. The 22-year-old signed a new contract until 2024 last month.
