Peter Bosz: 'We were awful'

Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz was disappointed by side's performance after they lost 1-4 at home to Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
After winning their first two games since the return of the Bundesliga in impressive style, Bayer Leverkusen suffered a disappointing 1-4 loss to Wolfsburg on Tuesday.

'Die Werkself' had won 11 out of their last 12 outings in all competitions going into the game, but were demolished as Wolfsburg put four past them.

Speaking after the game, Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz gave an honest assessment of his side's performance.

"We were awful today – really in all areas. It was a very big difference to our other recent appearances. Our aggressiveness was missing, with and against the ball. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, played really well and deservedly won," Bosz said at the post-match press conference.

Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky was disappointed with the performance as well.

"Our performance today was unacceptable. Wolfsburg were more vicious and we couldn't make use of our footballing quality. We have to make sure that this remains a one-off," he said after the game.

Peter Bosz's side sit fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach.
