Djibril Sow admits things haven't gone according to plan for him at Eintracht Frankfurt following his €9 million move from Young Boys last summer.

The central midfielder played a lot of games in his first season at the club, making a total of 40 appearances, but struggled to nail down a starting spot.

Most recently, he watched Frankfurt's Bundesliga opener against Bielefeld from the bench.

"So far, I have unfortunately not been able to develop in the way I hoped for. It hasn't been a good year for me. I have shown good things, but I need to be more consistent, so that I can help the team as much as possible," Sow said in an interview with Bild and added:

"I was full of anticipation in the beginning, but then things got difficult and we struggled to win games.

"I have had doubts, because for the first time in my professional career, things haven't worked out for me. I don't think there are purely football-related or physical reasons for all this, but that it's more of a mental thing.

"But the sooner you have such a negative experience, the better you can use it and work on it later in your career," said Sow.
