Julian Nagelsmann has got the German national team back on track since taking over as head coach in September 2023.

Naturally, there is a great deal of satisfaction with his work at the German Football Association, who would like to see him stay on for the long term.

According to Bild, the parties are in talks about a possible contract extension from 2026 to 2028, with Nagelsmann reportedly not averse to the idea of staying in charge until after the European Championship.

In October, German Football Association sporting director Rudi Völler confirmed that he would look into the possibility of extending Nagelsmann's contract beyond the upcoming World Cup.

"We will try to convince Julian that it makes sense for him to stay on as coach for a few more years. We'll see when the time is right. As the DFB, we are of course very happy that we have Julian Nagelsmann," said Völler back then.

Nagelsmann later responded to Völler's comments at a press conference, saying:

“You have a certain conviction when you take the job. We played well at the European Championship and achieved a lot from a footballing point of view. I don't know yet whether we'll be working together beyond 2026.”
