The 27-year-old recent national team call-up remained conspicuously absent from Frankfurt's initial team training session on Tuesday, but club sporting director Bruno Hübner payed down fears that he might be unavailable for the crucial weekend duel against fellow Champions' League aspirants VfL Wolfsburg.
"We are relatively optimistic that he'll be available to us again by Saturday," Hübner reported from the sidelines of the team's training session via video link.
Given the strength of the opponent and the importance of the match, Hübner was also asked about the status of defensive captain Martin Hinteregger. The Austrian international has been missing since the league's 24th round after suffering a fascia injury.
Hübner had less positive news to report on that front. Hinteregger has evidently undergone a second MRI this week as the team continues to seek a more exact diagnosis. The club executive nevertheless expressed optimism that replacement Stefan Ilsanker could continue his strong run of form.
"Stefan has done really well, Hübner noted, "We can rely on him."
